LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested a 19-year-old man Monday morning after he allegedly doused a woman's front door with lighter fluid and set fire to it after she refused to let him borrow her car or come into her home.
Ruben Rios Jr., of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree felony arson charge, a state-jail felony possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram charge, three Class C misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charges, a Class C misdemeanor assault-family violence charge, and a Class C misdemeanor failure to appear charge.
Collectively, his bail has been set at $2,247 for five of the charges. At this time, no bail amount has been set for Rios' arson charge.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the incident happened at a home in the 200 block of Vincent Street at about 8:11 a.m. Monday. At that time, Rios allegedly doused a woman's front door with lighter fluid and set fire to it.
The report stated that the woman told police Rios was upset because she wouldn't let him borrow her car or come into her home. She also allegedly told police that she believed Rios was intoxicated at the time.
After Rios was arrested a short time later, he was taken to the county jail. When he was searched at the jail, jailers found him to be in possession of methamphetamine, the report stated.
