CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - The World Championship Fiddler's Festival is coming back to Crockett for the 80th consecutive year.
The event that was almost dead a few years ago has been gaining momentum in the public and has gotten the support of the county commissioners.
At Tuesday's commissioners court meeting, Houston County Judge Erin Ford approved a donation of $10,000 to the group. The money will go to secure hotel and travel for acts as well as supplies needed for the event.
"We just needed help, and the county stepped forward a few years ago," said event treasurer Karen Rice. "We were charging $20 a person to get in. We went back to no admission fee, and the county has continued to support us, and this has been are largest donation this time."
The event will take place on Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. from the Davy Crockett Memorial Park.
