LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A room full of emergency management officials were hard at work making sure the region was ready for "Hurricane Amy."
It was all part of a drill the Angelina County Office of Emergency Management put together for the county and all city offices. The drill is run through a computer program in Austin. The drill uses certain parameters and changes based on what the individuals do.
"We do this every year," said Angelina County Emergency Management Coordinator Ricky Conner. "We try to train every year at least a couple of times together in the event we do have a hurricane Amy. It is a good way for us to all work together because if for instance Huntington has a major disaster we would all step up and help. we all have mutual aid with each other."
The county has to do the training once every three years to get grant funding, but Conner said the county does this on a yearly basis.
