LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

With the help of Angelina County high school students, CHI St. Luke’s Health  has named their new da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.

R.O.B is the name they came up with for the robot who has contributed reduced trauma to the body, less scarring, reduced blood loss, less post-operative pain with a list of benefits that goes on.

"We looked at the robot as a part of our team, so we wanted a name that fit it. When you turn it on and it comes to life, it kind of spreads it's wings," said Kristie Moody, R.N. Robotics Coordinator.

Rob stands for "Robotic Operating Beast." The name came from T.J. Marshall, a Central High School student.
