POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - For those looking to visit the lakes in East Texas this weekend, you'll want to pay attention.
Lake Livingston has tested positive for zebra mussels. The test was conducted by the Trinity River Authority and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
The invasive and highly destructive species is carried from lake to lake by boats by not cleaning old water from your boat.
Boaters should remember to clean, drain, and dry your boat before entering another body of water.
You could get ticketed $25 to $500 dollars if you are caught with inadvertently moving zebra mussels into East Texas lakes.
Zebra mussels have been moving steadily deeper into Texas since they were first found 2009.
