NACOGDOCHES, TX (Press Release)- The Southland Conference has announced its television schedule for the first half of the 2016 football season as Stephen F. Austin's first five games have all been confirmed as televised games, either over the air or online.
The SLC officially announced that SFA's conference opener at reigning conference champion McNeese on September 17th will be broadcast by the American Sports Network, kicking off at 6 p.m. from Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The appearance by the Lumberjacks will mark SFA's third appearance on ASN in the past two seasons.
The conference also announced that the 2016 installment of the Battle of the Piney Woods at NRG Stadium on Saturday, October 1st will be broadcast on ESPN3, kicking off at 3 p.m. The rivalry game against Sam Houston State is one of five conference games televised on that Saturday and the first game of a Southland Conference ESPN3 doubleheader, followed by Southeastern Louisiana at Lamar at 7 p.m.
With the conference opting to not pick up SFA's home games against West Alabama on September 10th and Abilene Christian on September 24th, those games will be produced by the SFA video department and will be broadcast on the Lumberjacks' ESPN3 platform. The announcement gives the Lumberjacks a confirmed broadcast audience for the first five games of 2016 as SFA's season opener at Texas Tech will air nationally on Fox Sports Net.
The remainder of the 2016 schedule will be announced later in the fall as the SLC will make the remainder of its television broadcast announcements no later than 12 days prior to kickoff. All SFA home games not picked up by the Southland Conference or another media outlet will air on ESPN3.
