NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Nacogdoches Police Department arrested a man and a woman from Illinois on felony possession of marijuana charges early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop on Northwest Stallings Drive.
Coen Camara Clark, 23, of Kankakee, Illinois, and Amber Lynn Johnson, 36, of Granite City, Illinois, are both still being held in the Angelina County Jail. Each person was charged with third-degree felony possession of marijuana between five and 50 pounds and Class B misdemeanor failure to identify or giving false information. Collectively, each person's bail amount was set at $21,500.
According to the arrest affidavit, a Nacogdoches Police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Johnson in the 3600 block of Northwest Stallings Drive at about 5:23 a.m. Wednesday for an equipment malfunction and speeding. When the PD officer made contact with Clark and Johnson, he noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the interior of their vehicle.
Before the officer did a probable cause search of the vehicle, Johnson admitted to having marijuana hidden in the trunk. A search of the vehicle revealed a small bale of a green leafy substance wrapped in a white bag, the affidavit stated.
Clark and Johnson also allegedly gave the officer false names and addresses at first.
They were arrested at the scene and taken to the county jail.
