EUGENE, OREGON- Stephen F. Austin pole vaulter Demi Payne has been eliminated at the U.S. Olympic Trials and will not compete in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Payne cleared her first bar at 13 feet, 11.25 inches. She then failed to clear 14 feet, 3 inches three times and was eliminated from the trials.
The pole vaulter entered with the third best mark in the country this year. Payne has jumped as high as 16 feet, .075 inches in February.
Payne has battled through injuries leading up to the U.S. Olympic Trials, including dislocating her thumb in April.
