Lufkin PD: Missing Alzheimer’s patient located

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Police Department confirms a missing 87-year-old Alzheimer's patient has been located.

They have not said what condition Hattie Butler is in, but say they will have more information shortly.

Hattie Butler was last seen by family members around 11 a.m. Sunday at Hidden Oaks Apartments on Daniel McCall Drive, according to police. She had been asleep in her apartment, but when they went in to check on her, she was gone.

According to Lufkin Police, a neighbor reported seeing Butler around noon in the apartment's laundry facility and she told him she wanted to go home. Butler grew up in the Zavalla area, but her family does not believe she could have made it that far by herself because she does not drive.

Butler is described as 5'4", 108 pounds with a stooped posture, according to her family members. She was last seen carrying a sheet and pillow and wearing a turquoise or purple sweater, black slacks and pink shoes.

Her family said she has gone missing previously.

A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter had been called in to search the wooded area behind the apartment complex using heat-seeking technology.

Lufkin Police, Hudson Search and Rescue, and DPS are involved in the search.

If you have any information on Mrs. Butler's whereabouts, please call the Lufkin Police Department at (936) 633-0356.
