A former Trinity volunteer firefighter has accepted a plea bargain deal of 10 years of deferred adjudication for groping a then-16-year-old girl in September of 2015.

As part of the plea bargain deal Ricky Harrelson, of Trinity, pleaded guilty to felony indecency with a child. He will also be required to pay restitution in the amount of $600 and register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

According to the Trinity County District Attorney’s Office the plea deal was made at the request of the victim.

Trinity Police Chief Steven Jones said back in October of 2015 that the 16-year-old victim made the outcry. He said she stayed away from him and reported the alleged groping incident to her family members, and they reported it to the Trinity Police Department.

Jones said because Harrelson is a volunteer firefighter and a city employee, he had a conflict of interest, so he called in Texas Ranger Steven Jeter to help with the investigation.

After Jeter arrived in Trinity, they interviewed Harrelson, Jones said. Jones said Harrelson was cooperative and provided a confession. Harrelson was arrested and charged with indecency with a child.
