CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in finding the three men who broke into the Subway restaurant in Alto on July 6 and tried to break into the Polk’s Pick-It-Up in Wells a short time later.

According to a press release, the first break-in occurred at the Subway in Alto at about 2:15 a.m. on June 6.

The three suspects broke the glass in the front door with a sledge hammer and entered the store. They reached over the counter and took about $200 from the cash register drawer under the counter, the press release stated.

“All three suspects were in the Subway less than 30 seconds and then exited the store and drove away,” the press release stated.

The press release started that the restaurant’s alarm wasn’t set the night before, and no one was alerted to the break in. About an hour later, the suspects returned to Subway, re-entered through the broken front door, and took an additional $300 from the safe.

According to the press release, the three suspects were busy the hour they were gone from Alto. During that time, they drove to Wells and tried to break into the Polk’s Pick-It-Up store there.

Surveillance video from the incident shows the suspects trying to break the front door by hitting it with a sledge hammer and kicking it. After the alarm was set off, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was notified, the press release stated.

The three men fled the parking lot. However, they returned five minutes later and tried to get into the store again.

“Due to the clothing and masks worn by the suspects, it is difficult to determine the race or age of the suspects,” the press release stated. “The vehicle they are driving is described as a newer model four door sedan, blue in color – possibly a Honda or Toyota.”

Anyone that might have information on the suspect or the two incidents is asked to call the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at (903) 683-2271. Tipsters can also call the Cherokee County Crime Stoppers hotline at (903) 586-7867 with any information.
