LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau and Brookshire Brothers hosted the first ever Pour and Explore event on Thursday evening at Shelton's Place in Lufkin.
The tasting event brought in wines from all over but focused on wines from Washington State for East Texans to taste.
Wines from renowned winemakers' aMaurice Cellars, Andrew Januik and Novelty Hill were sampled by attendees at the event. A five-course dinner was also included at the tasting which was prepared by Chef Kate Rudasill.
Pour and Explore was sold out leading organizers to believe that there's truly an interest in wines in the Pineywoods.
Tara Watson-Watkins, Executive Director of the Lufkin Convention & Visitors Bureau who helped organize the event was quite pleased with the turnout.
"It's been great, we have a lot of people who are not only from Lufkin, but also we have people who have joined us from Livingston, Jasper, Conroe and Jacksonville," said Watson-Watkins.
One of the highlights and ultimate goals of the event was being able to culture people on certain wines and cuisine.
Watson said they were excited to be able to expand people's horizons "I think everyone likes to have a glass of wine, but you don't know the background or the history on it. And so we're trying to pair the two and bring together an event, where not only do you get to taste great food and great wine, but you get to know the background history of it as well."
The Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau and Brookshire Brothers said the next Pour and Explore event will be November 10th. You can check the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau website for more details.
