Round 3 of Crown Colony’s Adams Pro Tour teed off Friday morning after cuts were made. Three East Texans shot 3-over-par or better to resume play in the tour.
Nacogdoches’ Stetson McMillan came into the third day as the leader of the three East Texans. Tied at 8th, McMillan was able to shoot a 72 and make a jump to 7th place.
He’s currently 1-under-par and feels with a few tweaks, he can climb up the leaderboard.
“It takes a lot of patience. Today, it definitely showed that. I tried to stay as patient as I could. I kept hitting greens, putts were’t falling, but I know at some point in the tournament they will. Tomorrow's the day,” said McMillan.
Lufkin's Sam Fidone came into the third round tied at 18th at 1-over-par. Fidone was able to hit three birdies Thursday, but in the end finished with a 73. He is still sitting at 18th on the leaderboard at now 2-over-par.
Fidone said he's been struggling with the driver this week but thinks he's found how to straighten that out to hopefully lower his score going into the final day.
“If I put myself in position off the tees I could still have a really good finish here, and that's the goal now,” said Fidone. “If I were to shoot something crazy and win, that would be unbelievable. Obviously, that’s going to be tough but anything's possible.”
Lufkin’s Will Griffin needed a big performance on Thursday as he entered tied at 31st. He did climb up the leaderboard and is tied at 25th. On Thursday, Griffin shot a 72 but was a low as 3-under-par on the back 9. Griffin sits at 3-over-par overall.
The current leader of the tour is Mark Walker. He is 10-under-par entering the final round.
The last day of the tour tees off at 8 a.m. at Crown Colony on Saturday.
