Release: Burglary suspect fired shots at Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputy

JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

During a multi-county pursuit Sunday morning, a burglar suspect fired shots at Jasper County Sheriff’s Office deputies, according to a press release.

According to the press release from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched out to a check out a report of a burglary in progress at a residence in the Holly Springs area off of State Highway 190 at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

When the JCSO deputy arrived on the scene, the suspect got into a vehicle and fled the scene. The deputy pursued the actor and the vehicle, but the suspect refused to stop. During the chase, the suspect fired shots at the deputy, the press release stated.

The chase continued into Newton County. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle on County Road 2036 and fled into a wooded area.

At that point, the deputy requested additional patrol units. The Newton County Sheriff’s office, the Newton Police Department, the Jasper Police Department, and the Vern Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene and assisted with the extensive search. However, the suspect was not located, the press release stated.

The suspect’s vehicle was recovered, and it is being processed for evidence. The JCSO deputy was not injured by the shots that were fired at him.

Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman is in the process of obtaining arrest warrants for the suspect. The search for the suspect is still under way.
