Foster Grandparent Awards Banquet

Some Foster Grandparents were recognized Saturday.

Foster Grandparents are those that go out and help children at places like the Women's Shelter of East Texas, day care centers, and local head start programs. They serve as tutors, counselors, and sometimes just as a grandparent for children who don't have one.

Charlotte Barnes, Director of the Foster Grandparent Program said, "they work one-on-one with these children and work with them on their reading or their learning their alphabet, counting. Whatever their need is, we can work up to 18 years of age."

All the Foster Grandparents were awarded Saturday for their service to the community. The Foster Grandparent Program has been in operation for the last 31 years.
