LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - Over the weekend of July 15, someone vandalized a Toyota Matrix belonging to Cross Medical on Ellis Avenue in Lufkin.

When employees returned to work Monday, they found that someone had crushed the car’s hood and roof. It is clear from shoeprints on the car that the vandal jumped on the hood and roof. The prints have diamond patterns across the toe, heal, and mid-sole areas, and hexagonal patterns across the ball of the foot.  The pattern appears to be from Vans brand shoes.

The police report of the incident estimates the repair cost to be $5,000.

The offense of criminal mischief involves intentionally or knowingly damaging, tampering with, or marking (e.g., graffiti) someone else’s property. Depending on the details of the incident, acts of criminal mischief may be punished by fines of up to $10,000 and prison sentences of up to 99 years. Base on the estimated damage, this case is a state-jail felony offense; a conviction means confinement in a state jail for a term of 180 days to two years, and possibly a fine.

If you can identify the person responsible for this crime, call Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers at (936) 639-TIPS or submit a tip online at www.DETCS.tips.  Crime Stoppers calls and tips are anonymous and the first, most accurate tip that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.

Crime Stoppers pays rewards in cash but only for anonymous tips submitted directly to Crime Stoppers and that concern information not previously provided to or known by law enforcement.
