A growing number of teenagers are apparently abusing prescription drugs. A new survey finds an average of one in five teenagers nationwide have tried some type of prescription painkillers like Vicodin.
Drug free advocates say teens are more likely to experiment with and abuse painkillers first before using illegal drugs, making it important for parents to pay close attention to what their teenagers are doing.
Phyllis Grandgeorge, of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council, said parents need to monitor their medicine cabinets, and to realize that sometimes kids do things that can shock parents.
