Federal Judge Makes Decision in Zavalla ISD Case

A Zavalla High School student will be allowed to return to school this week. That decision was made today by a federal judge.

Last year, the boy was ordered to transfer to an alternative school after a teacher accused him of participating in an inappropriate sex act with a female student at Zavalla high school.

The boy denies the allegation. The student and his father filed suit against the school, wanting the boy's placement in the alternative school reversed.

On Tuesday, both sides agreed to have the judge himself decide on the case. The judge decided it was in the boy's best interest to be allowed back in school, but with independent instruction.

Following a brief stay in ISS, the boy will then be able to take his final exams with his classmates and take part in graduation ceremonies.
