POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 54-year-old man on July 29 in connection to allegations that he molested an 11-year-old girl while she was sleeping in her bedroom at a home in Goodrich.

Louis Joseph Mastalez, of Goodrich, is still being held in the Polk County jail on a felony indecency with a child by sexual contact charge. His bail amount has been set at $25,000.

According to the arrest affidavit East Texas News obtained Wednesday, the child’s father contacted the PCSO on July 24 and told the sheriff’s office that an acquaintance of his who had been residing on his property had touched his daughter inappropriately. The alleged victim’s father also said that the suspect is a registered sex offender.

The alleged victim was interviewed at Childrenz Haven on July 25. She told the forensic interviewer than on July 20, she was asleep in her bed when she was awakened by Mastalez touching her “private parts” by putting his hand and fingers on top of her clothes, the affidavit stated.

The alleged victim told the interviewer that this kind of inappropriate touching has occurred on several different occasions, the affidavit stated. The girl told the interviewer that she told her sister, step-mother, and father.

Mastalez, who lives in a travel trailer on the family’s property, allegedly admitted to touching the girl and apologized to the child, the affidavit stated.

According to the affidavit Mastalez traveled to Comal County, where he tried to commit suicide and was hospitalized. At that point, the PCSO lieutenant who obtained the warrant was contacted by Texas Ranger Jimmy Jones. At the PCSO lieutenant’s request Jones interviewed Mastalez, who told the Ranger that he had only touched the girl on her rear end, the affidavit stated.

The Texas Department of Public Safety’s online Sex Offender Database states that Mastalez was convicted of two counts of indecency of a child by sexual contact on April 13, 2013. He served two years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison and then served four years of parole/mandatory supervision.
