SABINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 58-year-old Texarkana, Arkansas man died as a result of a two-vehicle accident involving a dump truck and a parked car Wednesday morning.
The man who died as a result of injuries he suffered in the crash has been identified as Jerry Woods.
According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers from Sabine and Shelby counties responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 87, just south of the SH 21 intersection.
The preliminary crash investigation shows that a 2006 International dump truck was pulling a trailer south on SH 87 when Woods, the drive of the dump truck, disregarded the stop sign at SH 21, drove off the road, and struck an unoccupied car in the parking lot of a local convenience store, the press release stated.
After the truck struck the parked car, Woods over-corrected to the left, and his dump truck rolled over in the southbound lane of SH, the press release stated. He was ejected from the dump truck.
Woods was transported to a hospital in Hemphill, where he was later pronounced dead. Two passengers from the dump truck were taken to CHI St. Luke's Memorial in Lufkin for treatment of their injuries. However, their conditions are unknown at this time.
The wreck is still under investigation at this time.
