Lufkin native makes Dallas Cowboys cheer squad

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin native has realized her dream of joining one of the most elite dance squads in the world.

Khalyn Cole announced on her Facebook page Friday she had made the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

"Needless to say this journey was not easy, but by the grace of God he has kept me and with the unconditional support and love of my family and friends," Cole posted. "I am so honored to be a part of the organization. #‎DallasCowboyCheerleaders #‎BEYOND #‎GoCowboys"

Cole tried out for the squad in 2015 but did not win a fan vote to attend the training camp.

Cole, a 2012 graduate of Lufkin High School was the first black captain of the Panther Pride dance team.
