The Nacogdoches Youth Soccer Association is hosting a foot golf tournament at Woodland Hills Golf Course. The group is hoping to raise money to install lights at the Clint Dempsey Soccer Field in Nacogdoches.
The lights will help regulate more soccer to take place during the fall and winter when it gets dark earlier in the day.
“The main thing for them is they do a lot of league play at the Dempsey Fields and right now they're limited. They have to be done by dark. In the summer time, that's not too big of an issue. When you start getting into the fall and the winter time, when it gets dark by 5:30- 6 p.m., nobody can go out after work and do anything at the soccer fields because it's already dark. That's why they're really wanting to get the lights on it,” said Woodland Hills’ owner Doug Datin.
The tournament with be Saturday, August 13. The tournament will start at 9 a.m. and run until noon. It’s a scramble with four players per team. It costs $125 per team to sign up.
The tournament will not allow cleats on the course. It’s advised to wear indoor soccer shoes or running shoes. The teams are also required to bring their own soccer ball.
