House Passes New Abortion Bill

The House has passed a new bill that would keep anyone from crossing state lines to have an abortion. This often happens when minors want to avoid parental consent laws.

Under the measure, adults and doctors could face fines and jail time.

One volunteer for the Pregnancy HELP Center in Lufkin, who is also a nurse, said the new law would be a step in the right direction.

Patricia Carter said, "A minor can not make that decision, and I don't think a parent or an adult should make that decision for them. I feel that is not right, and they don't have the right to do that."

A spokesman for Planned Parenthood said they promote education. They want to focus on fewer teens becoming pregnant before they are ready.
