SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - The Daughters of the Republic of Texas came together on Friday for a small gathering prior to their large celebration tomorrow in San Augustine.
The group organized today at the Ezekiel Cullen house to view documents, paintings and relics representing the history of the first English town of Texas.
One hundred twenty five ladies are expected to turn out during their headline event tomorrow.
The members are uniting to have lunch and celebrate their heritage along with the importance of the organizations history.
Chapter president Cherry Matthews Burnett said she's excited to celebrate part of San Augustine's history.
"We just want to continue what our ancestors started years and years ago and what they fought to establish and we want to keep that and we want our children and our descendents we want them to value this as much as we do" Burnett said.
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas celebration will begin Saturday August 12th at 8 am.
You must be a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas in order to attend.
