Taqueria El 21 located at 1422 Douglass Road received the most demerits this week for a total of 15. Several items of food had to be discarded on site because coolers were not kept at a minimum of 41 degrees. A carton of milk was discarded on site, and a spatula that was bent also needed to be replaced. All utensils must be smooth and easily cleaned. A thermometer needed to be provided for all coolers and freezers and they were missing a log book schedule kept on vent-a-hood and other equipment cleaning.

China Star at 4604 North Street received 13 demerits for two canned foods that needed to be discarded. Buckets and boxes of foods were stored on the freezer floor and needed to be moved. In addition the employee rest room did not have paper towels available, and there was no weatherproof screen door in the back exit. Ice scoops were not in a clean container, and there was a log book schedule missing from the vent-a-hood and other equipment cleaning. They also received demerits for water and damaged tile present on ceilings.

Chicken Express located at 1614 North University Drive received 12 demerits for missing a weather proof back door in the rear exit of the fast food restaurant. They also needed to sweep area near the back storage for chemicals. Caps also needed to be replaced or put back on containers of solution in back storage area. They received demerits for not keeping ice scoops in the right containers and needing to re-clean and re-sanitize spatulas. They needed to keep their dumpster lids closed and provide a log book for vent-a-hood and other equipment cleaning, as well as needing to replace any water damaged ceiling tiles.

With 11 demerits, Tacos Dona Pancha located at 112 West Seale road for not properly storing onions and potatoes. They need a back flow preventer for outside hose BIBB, and to keep the hand washing station unimpeded for employees to have easy access. They also needed to keep their dumpster lid closed, and keep a log schedule for vent a hood and other equipment cleaning schedule.

Wal Mart neighborhood deli and bakery on 1030 university drive received 9 demerits. They needed to put hand towels at the hand wash sink, and provide thermometer for prep cooler. They also needed to replace a spatula.

Dairy Queen location on 3226 South Street had 8 demerits for needing to provide, ‘Best used by’ dates on taco meat. They needed to have a back flow preventer for outside hose BIBB. A log book schedule for vent a hood and other cleaning equipment was also missing.

Big’s Convenient store located on 2430 Southeast Stallings Dr. was handed 7 demerits for having to dispose several drink products, and failing to have a thermometer provided for the ice cream freezer. They need to keep the grease bin steam cleaned, and contact the public works department to replace a missing dumpster lid. They also needed to pick up scattered trash around that dumpster.

Chili’s on 1911 North Street received 6 demerits for needing to replace and sanitize a damaged spatula. Also, they need to keep their hand washing sink path unimpeded.

Pizza Hut, located on 2619 North Street received 3 demerits. They also needed to replace a damaged spatula and keep a log book schedule for vent a hood and other cleaning equipment.

Nick’s at 4518 Appleby Sand Road received 4 demerits for needing to discard several cartons of eggs and needing to replace any water damaged tile.

Whataburger on North Street was handed 3 demerits for needing to discard a damaged spatula.
