LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Blue is a 1 year-old Australian Cattle dog that came into the Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter in late July.

Just like his name this little guy is very calm and cool.

He’s a blue merle that has dark gray and black marking that swirl together throughout his coat of fur.

Shelter director Aaron Ramsey said that Blue is also very well mannered and well trained.

“He’s a well disciplined fella. He’s sitting here, he knows sit, he knows some other basic commands but he’s really mild mannered. He’s minding very well for us today” Ramsey said.

This pup may be behaved but that doesn’t mean that Blue doesn’t like to have some fun and play.

Cattle dogs are typically bred and classified as herding dogs, which means that Blue also needs a lot of room to run around so a home with a large yard is ideal.

“You know they’re a herding type animal and that’s kind of in their instincts so they need a place where they can go and kind of get that energy out. But he’s a great fella and he’s ready to go home today.” Ramsey said.

Blue will get along with any type of family that can give him the type of love and attention that he deserves, and he certain to return the sentiment.

He is also very mature for his young age and doesn’t show as much puppy like behavior that most one year old dogs portray.

Blue has no behavior issues but does need some training however when it comes to walking on a leash, but he does pick up things very quickly.

Other dog owners who may be interested in Blue are encouraged to bring their pets to see how they interact with one another before committing to adopt.

Blue is also good with kids, loves a good belly scratch and enjoys a good dog treat.
