LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A meeting was held today on the campus to talk about the proposed hike to an 18.4 cent tax rate to fund the school's new budget.
That means that county homeowners will see a rise in their property taxes.
For example, a homeowner with a 85 thousand dollar home will pay $153.34 with this proposed AC tax rate.
While no county residents were at today's meeting Angelina College president Michael Simon said he thinks the hike is fair.
"It's also important for us to make sure that people understand that we're balancing tax payer value and trying to be very responsible with student investment, tax payer investment, while also making sure that we have the best possible community college that we can." Simon said.
The Angelina College tax hike will pay for a 2% raise for employees, new campus police and student activities.
The proposed tax hike will be approved on September 12th.
