FRISCO, Texas (Press Release) – Stephen F. Austin senior Justice Walker captured the first Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week nod of the 2016 season following a strong opening movement to her final collegiate campaign.
A middle blocker out of Fort Worth, Texas, Walker lived up to her Preseason All-Southland Conference First Team selection through the Ladyjacks’ first three matches of the 2016 season. Of the 24.0 total blocks amassed by SFA during their three-match schedule at the Country Inn & Suites Green Bay Invitational, Walker accounted for just under one-third of them. She totaled 15 block assists over ten sets which translates to a Southland Conference-leading blocks per set average of 1.50.
Walker’s splendid front row play was a big reason why the Ladyjacks won their first two matches of the season for the first time since 2013 and closed out the weekend with a 2-1 showing. In addition to her defense, the senior also added 22 kills (2.20 per set) on the strength of a .333 hitting percentage that currently stands as the sixth-best in the Southland Conference.
For her efforts, Walker carved out a spot for herself on the All-Tournament Team.
Walker and the rest of the Ladyjacks will hit the road later this week with San Marcos, Texas, serving as their destination. While there, they will be one of four entrants in the Texas State Creeds & Crests Classic – a six-match tournament which opens with a matchup between the Ladyjacks and Texas State at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning.
