Randell Resigns

Lufkin I.S.D. Athletic Director John Outlaw confirmed to the East Texas News by phone that Lufkin Baseball Coach Dan Randell tendered his letter of resignation Tuesday morning.

For the past six seasons, Randell has won nearly 74% of his games as the Panthers head baseball coach.

There was speculation that Randell would resign after a post-game incident last Saturday in Kingwood.

Randell and his team were taunted by racially sensitive remarks and un-ruly fans from Klein,

after Lufkin lost the playoff game, against Klein, 7-6 for the 3rd and final playoff spot from district 14-5A.

According to David Sharp, the superintendent of the Lufkin I.S.D., Randell resigned on his own terms.

Randell's services are reportedly being pursued by college baseball program not known at this time.

According to Lufkin High School athletic director John Outlaw, the Lufkin head baseball coach position has been posted and a search is underway.
