GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - Groveton quarterback Glenn Thornton has received his second statewide honor after just one game into the high school football season. Thornton was named the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week on Wednesday.
The award comes after the senior was nominated for Dave Campbell's Mr. Texas High School Football Player of the Week two days prior.
Only six players in the state, just one for each classification, are picked for the honor Built Ford Tough award.
Thornton and the Indians started the season out with a bang beating New Waverly last Friday night 54-9.
The quarterback put on a five-touchdown performance, three of which were rushing. Thornton also threw for 262 yards and ran for 228 yards.
The Dave Campbell honor is a voting based award, which ends Friday at noon. To vote for Thornton to win that honor, click here.
