San Jacinto blanks Roadrunners in conference opener

HOUSTON – The San Jacinto Coyote soccer team offered a rude welcome to the fledgling Angelina College Roadrunners, posting a 5-0 blanking of AC in the teams' Region XIV conference opener Thursday night in Houston.

The Coyotes, using patience and precision on offense, diced their way through Roadrunner defenders, posting four goals in the first half alone. Luis Almeda (30:27), Ricardo Ramos (20:05), Hikaruhto Meike (17:21) and Ivan Cruz each found the net in the first 45 minutes. Donald Benamna scored in the second half's 27th minute to cap the Coyote scoring.

The Roadrunners regrouped after the first-half San Jac onslaught, holding the Coyotes to the lone goal in the second; but AC's only scoring chance came from Carlos Campos in the 14th minute of the half, but as was the case all night, each time a Roadrunner touched the ball, there were at least two Coyote defenders on-hand to disrupt the play.

The Roadrunners (0-2) will get a week to regroup before hosting Paris College on Friday. Game time at Jase Magers Field in Lufkin is 7:30 p.m.
