A Kirbyville man died at a hospital Sunday as a result of injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle crash on US Highway 96 in Jasper County the day before.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the man has been identified as James Steven Dominy.

DPS troopers in Jasper County received word of a one-vehicle crash on US 96 bear Call Junction at about 9 p.m. on Saturday. The preliminary accident report states that a Ford pickup was traveling south on US 96 when for an unknown reason, Dominy drove off the road to the right.

“In an attempt to get the vehicle back onto the road, the driver over-corrected which caused the vehicle to rollover over several times before coming to rest in the roadway,” The press release stated. “The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.”

Dominy was airlifted to S. Elizabeth hospital for treatment of serious head injuries. He was in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital until he died.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
