Lufkin PD: Man fought officers, was shocked after trespassing at motel

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin police officers arrested a 22-year-old man Monday after he allegedly trespassed at a motel and fought with the LPD officers who tried to take him into custody so much they wound up using a Taser on him twice.

Devante Lakeith Hulett, Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a third-degree felony assault of a public servant charge, a Class A misdemeanor criminal trespass charge, a Class B misdemeanor public intoxication charge, a Class C possession of drug paraphernalia charge, and four outstanding misdemeanor capias warrants. Collectively, his bail amount has been set at $6,000.

According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the incident happened at about 2:54 p.m. Monday at the Super 6 Motel. Lufkin PD officers responded to a report of Hulett trespassing at the motel and then refusing to leave.

When the LPD officers caught up with Hulett and tried to take him into custody, he allegedly fought them. He punched one of the officers in the face three times, the report stated.

The officers wound up having to use a Taser on Hulett twice before they could arrest him, the report stated.

At the time of his arrest, Hulett was allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia and had outstanding warrants.

According to Angelina County jail records, Hulett has been arrested 18 times since April 19, 2015. He has been arrested on a variety of charges including assault-family violence, deadly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
