NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Whale-watching excursions are a popular tourist attraction.
This summer, a Nacogdoches man was planning to mark kayaking with orca whales in Washington off his bucket list.
Unfortunately, Ray Johnston had to cancel the trip due to a family emergency.
His wife, Jenny, came up with the next best thing - East Texas whale watching.
She ordered online a dozen plastic, blow-up orca whales.
She then got to work planting them in places she knew Ray was going.
They were first found floating at Lake Naconiche, where she arranged a surprise kayaking trip for her husband.
Later in the week, plastic orcas showed up at church and hidden in a garage he was cleaning.
Jenny said the message to her husband is discoveries, like orcas, can be found in everyday life. It's just how you look at it.
