Judge sentences Lufkin man to nine years in federal prison on child porn charge

Last week, a federal judge sentenced a Lufkin man to nine years in federal prison for being in possession of 19 videos of him having sex with an underage girl.

After Michael Wayne Meadows, 29, serves the full nine-year prison term, he will be required to serve five years of supervised release, which is similar to probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.

Meadows was booked back into the Angelina County Jail on Sept. 10 on seven second-degree felony sexual assault of a child charges, a second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance charge between 4 and 200 grams charge, a second-degree fraudulent possession of identifying info charge, a Class A misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury charge, and a Class A misdemeanor evading arrest charge.

Collectively, Meadows’ bail amount has been set at $373,000.

According to court records, a federal magistrate sentenced Meadows to nine years in a federal prison on Sept. 7. Meadows pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors on Sept. 2.

As part of the conditions of his supervised release, Meadows will be subject to regular drug tests. He will also be banned from owning any type of firearm, ammunition, destructive device, or any other dangerous weapon.

The court documents state that Meadows will be required to provide DNA samples and will have to fully comply with the requirements of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. He will also have to participate in an approved domestic violence program.

“Under the guidance of the U.S. Probation Office, the defendant shall participate in any combination of psychiatric, psychological, or mental health treatment as deemed appropriate by the treatment provider,” the court documents state.

Meadows will also be required to take part in a sex offender treatment program.

Once he is released from federal prison, Meadows will be prohibited from having any kind of contact with children under the age of 18 unless it is supervised by an adult approved by the probation officer.

“The defendant shall not purchase, possess have contact with, or otherwise use any device that can be connected to the Internet or used to store digital materials,” the court documents state. “if the defendant needs access to an Internet-equipped device for employment purposes, he shall advise his probation officer before using the device. The probation officer will ensure the employer’s offender is aware of his criminal history and the defendant agrees to use the device for work purposes only.”

In addition, if Meadows lives in a home where a parent, spouse, or roommate has a computer, the owner of the computer must agree to allow the U.S. Probation Office to install software designed to monitor computer activities. That could include any software that may record any and all activity on any computer that the defendant may use in the residence, including keystrokes, application information, Internet use history, e-mail correspondence, and chat conversations.

Meadows will be banned from buying, possessing, or using digital cameras or and other type of recording and/or photographic equipment. He will also be banned from possessing or viewing any type of pornographic material or attending any kind of live venue that features sexually explicit conduct.

An Angelina County grand jury indicted Meadows on the state charges back in August of 2015. He was indicted on five felony counts of sexual performance of child, a felony sexual assault of a child charge, and a felony possession or promotion of child pornography charge. In addition, the grand jury indicted Meadows for possession of a controlled substance and fraudulent ID.

Meadows was arrested back in July of 2015, and he was originally charged with seven counts of sexual assault of a child.

On May 27, 2015, Meadows was involved in a vehicle pursuit in Polk County. According to the arrest affidavit, Meadows left his motorcycle and ran away on foot. In order to help identify the suspect, Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies requested a search warrant for the motorcycle.

Four cell phones, each linked back to Meadows, were found on the motorcycle, the affidavit stated. One of the phones allegedly contained sexual images of Meadows and a female. The affidavit stated that the girl was later identified as a 16-year-old girl.

The affidavit stated the Polk County Sheriff’s office turned over the case to Angelina County since they believed the alleged sexual acts occurred there. Angelina County authorities said they recovered approximately 19 videos of Meadows and the victim in various sexual activities.

The affidavit stated authorities met the victim at Harold’s House. The report continued saying the victim started to cry when asked about the videos, and she admitted that she willingly entered into a relationship before her 16th birthday. The victim told authorities she knew the relationship was wrong. The victim also told authorities she was embarrassed by the situation.
