LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Sleep Inn Mainstay hotel on Timberland Drive early Thursday morning.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the robbery occurred at about 4 a.m. Thursday. The suspect in the robbery took video equipment and an undisclosed amount of money from the business' registers.
The clerk told police that she had been in the dining area at the time. She also said she believes she had fallen asleep, the activity report stated.
According to the victim, she was startled awake by a man holding a knife, the report stated. The man allegedly told her to let him into the back room and demanded that she open the safe for him.
When the clerk told the man she couldn't open the safe, he took two video hard drives and left, the report stated.
The clerk described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s. She said he was wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, and a pair of blue Under Armor pants around his face.
