FALLS COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

An off-duty police officer for Alto has been injured in a wreck on State Highway 7 in Falls County.

Alto Police Chief Jeremy Jackson confirmed it was his officer, Rory Velasquez, who was injured in the wreck.

According to KXXV, the officer was in a pickup truck with his wife and they were going westbound when another pickup with five people were trying to pass an 18-wheeler in a no-passing zone. The officer's pickup struck the other one on its side.

KXXV reports the officer was taken to a Temple hospital by helicopter, with a broken arm and possibly broken legs.

No other injuries were reported.

"Our prayers are with the family," Jackson said.

Jackson said Velasquez has worked as a patrolman for the department for three-and-a-half years.
