FRISCO, TX (Press Release)- Stephen F. Austin senior quarterback Zach Conque has been tabbed the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced today by the league office. It is the third SLC weekly honor for Conque and the second for the Lumberjacks in as many weeks.
Conque accounted for 325 yards of total offense and three touchdowns as SFA knocked off reigning champion and 13th-ranked McNeese 31-28 Saturday night in Lake Charles. The Little Rock native passed for 262 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Lumberjacks with 63 yards rushing and a touchdown on the night. Conque opened up the game with a 36-yard touchdown scramble in the first quarter, then connected on touchdown passes of 30 yards toTrae Hart and 58 yards to De'Quann Ruffin as SFA defeated a nationally-ranked foe for the fifth-straight season.
For Conque's career, he now has 5,340 passing yards and 34 touchdowns while racking up 1,222 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns, giving him 6,562 yards of total offense and 61 total touchdowns (Conque caught a touchdown pass at McNeese two years ago). The first player in program history to surpass 5,000 passing and 1,000 rushing yards, he ranks among the Lumberjacks' top-10 in six statistical categories.
It is the second-straight week SFA has garnered an SLC Player of the Week following Storm Ruiz's Special Teams honor last week. Sam Houston State defensive end P.J. Hall earned the league's defensive honor with Houston Baptist's Kyle Bowling earning special teams honors. SFA linebacker George Stone (defensive) and Ruiz (special teams) both earned honorable mention nods.
