Tire Reclamation Day

Residents in Angelina County had the opportunity to get rid of their old tires Saturday.

The City of Lufkin's Solid Waste Services held a Tire Reclamation Day at the Expo Center parking lot. Thousands of tires were brought in to be disposed of for free.

Organizers say leaving these tires out on your property could become a problem in the near future.

Melinda Kartye, the Recycling Coordinator for the City of Lufkin, said, "if you have tires laying around your house, it's a good breeding ground for mosquitos and with the summertime coming, it's just a good opportunity to get rid of those tires they have laying around their house."

The tires will be taken to a disposal company and burned into clean fuel. The City of Lufkin doesn't normally accept tires at their facility.

The annual Tire Reclamation Day is their way of helping Angelina County.
