Unit Roads Election Reaction

by Chris Cato

The Unit Roads Special Election in Angelina County came to a head Saturday night, and the Unit Roads System was defeated.

Over 2,000 voters turned out for Saturday's elections. When the votes were tallied, the majority voted against the Unit Roads System, instead opting to keep the current system where the Commisioners handle the roads in their precints.

Commissioners we spoke with say despite their feelings about the vote, the people have spoken.

Robert Loggins, the Commissioner of Precinct 3, said, "I think alot of the people didn't want their taxes to go up and a lot of them felt the Unit Roads System would cause their taxes to go up."

Loggins says the vote seemed to be about better roads versus a tax increase, and the taxes won.
