Sewage Leak Cleaned Up

by Donna McCollum

A sewage spill in Nacogdoches has been repaired. 500-thousand gallons of raw sewage leaked onto about 2 acres. The leak happened on Press Road late last week.

Crews made the final patches to a man hole that had earlier been blocked by debris. All contamination has been cleaned up according to Water Utilities Manager Russell Grubbs. "The majority of the spill was picked up. It was disinfected with lye and chlorine and we diluted it with fresh water and hopefully everything is fine."

Soon state inspectors will make sure the cleanup was handled properly. Right now there is no hazard to people or the environment.
