LUFKIN, Tx (Press Release)
That’s how Angelina College head soccer coach described his team following another recent tough loss. Fielding a roster filled mostly with freshmen – only four of the 25 Roadrunners have even seen a collegiate field before this year – AC’s men are battling through inexperience while still trying to notch the program’s first-ever win.
They’ve come close more than once: Three of their losses were by 2-1 scores. One of the bright spots of late for the ‘Runners has been the play of Enrique Acevedo, who scored twice – becoming the first Roadrunner soccer player with a multi-goal game – Friday night in Jacksonville.
On Tuesday, the Roadrunners will have an opportunity to notch that first “W” when the team plays host to Northeast Texas Community College. The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 10 but was postponed due to lightning in the area that night.
The Eagles enter Tuesday with a 4-4-1 record, having won two recent non-conference games.
Tuesday’s match will kick off at 6 p.m. at Jase Magers Field at Lufkin High School.
