East Texas Boys & Girls Club director dies

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Boys & Girls Club of Deep East Texas board member has confirmed the club's director has died after a long battle with cancer.

Betty Shinn said Jeff Woods was found dead at his home on Thursday afternoon after working that morning.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened with the loss of Jeff," said Bryant Krenek, the president of the Boys and Girls Club of Deep East Texas corporate board. "He has been battling cancer for many years, but Jeff kept his spirits high and never lost his focus on his two loves of his life, his family and the Boys and Girls Club."

Shinn said Woods had been battling cancer for at least the past decade.

"He was a fine man," Shinn said. "He had such a knowledge of the club and took care of the kids. He's leaving quite a void, and it's quite a loss for the community."

As director, Woods oversaw clubs in Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Diboll, San Augustine and Polk and Hardin counties.

"He will be missed by so many he worked with and served, and I know his family will appreciate your thoughts and prayers."
