ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - It's an intersection in Angelina County that's been the cause of recent accidents and resident said they want something to be done.

"It's really dangerous," resident, Melissa Bryan said.

"It's a dangerous intersection to begin with," Greg Matchett, witness of Friday's wreck said.

That's how many drivers described the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and FM 326.

"I live right down the road and since I've lived here the past month and a half there has probably been four wrecks right here," Bryan said.

Residents said at the intersection cars do more than just pass by, sometimes they collide.

"The people in this community see accidents quite often at this intersection," Matchett said.

Just last Friday there was a wreck involving a 22-year-old and a 2-year-old passenger.

"A lot of people will pull out in front of cars that they don't see," resident, Brandy Looney said.

Residents said the problem with this intersection is the position of a right turn coming over the hill.

"When they make that turn, the vehicle cannot see oncoming traffic," Matchett said.

"You can't see them coming over this hill here, you can't see until they pass," Bryan said.

"You can't see a car running parallel with that other car," resident, Luke Wisner said. "So people pull out and there has been many wrecks out here my whole life."

Residents seem to have the same concern and that's with this intersection. After Friday's wreck, they're hoping something is done to fix it.

"I don't know what they could do, but they need to do something," Wisner said.

"People need to show more patients at this intersection when they're pulling out onto Highway 69," Matchett said. "If it can be redesigned or relocated it would be a safer intersection for all."

Residents fear if nothing changes soon, accidents will continue to happen.
"Some of them are minor accidents, and some are major," Matchett said. "Sometimes fatalities are involved."

TxDOT issued the following statement to KTRE: "Our Lufkin District Traffic Safety Department will be doing a signal study analysis at US 69 South and FM 326 in Lufkin. The study should begin sometime this week and should be complete within a couple of weeks. If the findings meet the warrants required for a signalized intersection, our Director of Operations will request authorization from Austin to place a signal which could be placed within a few months. If I can do anything else or if you have any other questions, please let me know." – Lufkin District Public Information Officer, Communications division, Rhonda Oaks.
