Attorney General Unveils New Tool To Stop Cyber Predators

by Ramonica R. Jones

There is now a new tool available to keep children away from online predators.

The Kids' Page is available on the Texas attorney general's website. It lists information about Internet safety and the danger of giving out personal information about themselves to strangers they meet on the web.

Attorney General Greg Abbott said, "I formed the Cyber Crimes Unit at the attorney general's office two years ago. Since that time, we've arrested 59 child predators who tried to arrange a meeting, and showed up for the purpose of having sex with what they thought was a 13-year-old that they met on the Internet."

Attorney General Abbott was in Lufkin Thursday to talk about the Kids' Page. Students at Brookhollow elementary pledged to obey all the tips for cyber-smart kids.

To visit the Kids' Page or to find photos of arrested predators, go to www.oag.state.tx.us.
