NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

The Family Crisis Center Thrift Store in Nacogdoches reopened its doors Thursday in a brand new location, and the bargain you find during a weekend extravaganza will benefit much more than your own pocketbook.

Customers lined up outside the Family Crisis Center Thrift Store. When the doors opened no time was wasted in getting inside.

One customer called thrift stores her Macy's. More and more non-profits are calling them great revenue makers.

The thrift stores just generate that unrestricted revenue and is more of a steady stream of income for our agency,” said Heather Kartye, the executive director for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

That income allowed the service provider to purchase prime North Street real estate and build its own building.

“The initial investment was significant, but a great decision for our agency and it will allow us to do some amazing things moving forward in this community and providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault,” Kartye said.

Aside from the thrift store, the new center also has a counseling center. It offers complete privacy for all clients who walk in.

Assistant county attorney, Paige Patillo received a tour of the outreach center. She represents abused women in the courtroom, but recognizes the importance of counselors who see clients when they take their first step toward protection.

"I know they're passionate about the victims and want to help, so I always love working with people from the Family Crisis Center,” Patillo said.

The thrift store has more racks, shelves, and products. Customers can leave knowing their purchase is helping someone piece their lives together.

"We try to be very good stewards of the donations Nacogdoches and the surrounding county give us,” said Lisa Jackman, the thrift store’s director. “And I know the money all goes to a wonderful cause. And it does. We see it every day."

A three-day weekend extravaganza began today. A bargain hunters bizarre is tomorrow. Saturday there's a family fun festival.

The Family Crisis Center of East Texas Thrift Store is located at 3909 North Street in Nacogdoches. That's between Northview Plaza and Atwood's.
