LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Saturday was a good day to learn something new about people at Lufkin's annual heritage festival.
Hundreds of people turned out to the city's convention center to celebrate and embrace other cultural backgrounds.
The festival showcased a wide variety of music, dancing, jewelry and food unique to each culture.
Main street director Barbara Thompson said that this festival is a place to experience all walks of life.
"We are all so much alike, just because we look different doesn't mean that our hearts aren't alike, it's doesn't mean that we don't have the same feelings, we have the same blood, and we're all the same. It's about how we're brought up and it goes back to our heritage." Thompson said.
Organizers say understanding and respecting your neighbors heritage helps keep East Texas Diverse.
