18-wheeler wreck slows traffic in US-59 work zone north of Lufkin

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

One person was injured in a rear-end collision involving two 18-wheelers that occurred on U.S. Highway 59 North near the FM 2021 intersection early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the wreck occurred at 6:45 a.m.

The preliminary crash investigation shows that Rickey, Sessum, 53, of Lufkin, was driving 1993 International truck tractor and semi-trailer had merged onto Highway 59 from FM 2021 and was traveling south in the outside lane when it was struck from behind by a 2014 Peterbilt 18-wheeler driven by Richard Hooker, 69, of Malvern, Arkansas.

Sessum was not injured in the crash, the press release stated. Hooker was transported to Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin for treatment of his injuries.

Traffic on Highway 59 is flowing normally again.
