FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference released its complete slate of 2016-17 televised men’s and women’s basketball games on Thursday morning, and in addition to the Lumberjack men’s basketball team’s 19 known televised home and away tilts, five more of the ‘Jacks’ road contests have been selected for nationwide airing.
Already with all of their home contests available for viewing nationwide on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app as a result of SFA’s partnership with ESPN, the ‘Jacks’ Southland Conference road contests at Abilene Christian (Jan. 7), Incarnate Word (Jan. 21) and Northwestern State (Feb. 4) were added to the ESPN3/WatchESPN docket.
The 198th meeting between Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State is scheduled to be carried on American Sports Network on Feb. 2, marking the first of two times the ‘Jacks’ will be shown on that network during the 2016-17 regular season. SFA's other appearance on ASN is on Feb. 9, when the 'Jacks play host to Incarnate Word in William R. Johnson Coliseum at 8:00 p.m.
Additionally, Stephen F. Austin’s showdown at Southland Conference adversary Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on January 19 will be televised on ROOT Sports Southwest, bringing the total number of SFA’s televised contests to 24 games – 21 of which will be aired exclusively on the ESPN family of networks.
“We are again very pleased to announce an ever-growing broadcast schedule for Southland Conference basketball teams,” Southland Conference Commissioner Tom Burnett announced. “The competitive quality of Southland basketball continues to increase year after year, and our various broadcast partners have found that televising our teams to be compelling programming for their viewer.”
ESPN's live multi-screen sports network, ESPN3 is a destination that delivers thousands of exclusive sports events annually. It is accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the ESPN app and streamed on televisions through Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
The conference’s agreement with the American Sports Network allows a set of Wednesday and Thursday night men’s basketball games to be syndicated to affiliates nationwide. Additionally, all Southland games on ASN will be streamed on the Southland Conference Digital Network.
Regional networks Cox Sports Television, ROOT Sports Southwest and Spectrum Sports Texas will also carry other select men’s games at Southland venues. In addition, Southland teams will play on Fox Sports Networks, ACC Network Extra, Big Ten Network, SEC Network and other entities during non-conference action.
