ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County Jail records show the Zavalla High School baseball coach has been arrested on a charge of online solicitation of a minor.

The arrest of Richard Warren Cratty Jr., 31, of Nacogdoches, came the same week that Superintendent Ricky Oliver confirmed a teacher had been put on leave during an investigation of an inappropriate email to a student.

Oliver released a statement on Friday, saying the communications were between an employee and former student on Oct. 13. The district learned of the communication on Oct. 21.

"The employee remains on administrative leave while it conducted its investigation and cooperated with law enforcement personnel," Oliver stated. "The employee remains on administrative leave pending a recommendation from the Superintendent concerning his employment to the Board of Trustees at a special meeting."

That meeting will be held on Monday.

Oliver said he he could not release anymore information, due to privacy laws.

"ZISD faculty and staff want to assure parents and our community that the well-being of students is our first priority, and urge them to contact an administrator or school counselor if any questions or concerns arise," Oliver said.

Cratty's bond has not yet been set.

According to an Angelina County Sheriff's Office press release, an investigator with the office, along with Texas Rangers, arrested Cratty at his home off of County Road 545 in Nacogdoches County.
